Dell Venue 8 7840 has finally been updated to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, after a very long wait, but alas it’s here. Android 5.0.2 is quite the jump from KitKat, improving battery life and changing the multitasking to a carousel view, among others.
I should mention the slate came with a customized version of KitKat, but Lollipop seems to come without customization here. Venue 8 is also able to encrypt itself by default during the update process. I guess Android 5.1 is the next step and maybe one glorious day the Nexus 9 will get it too. With this apparent rush to get the latest Androids on famous and less famous devices, one can only dream of new Android at I/O 2015.
Be sure to check out the comments of our source link, to find out about potential bugs in this release. People talk about memory leak, boot looping, missing smart lock and some problems with Google Play Services. The encryption thing also lasts forever, according to one user, so be careful.
