The list of hardware partners making Chromebooks for Google has been expanding over the past years, but today we found a player and product that take things to a whole new level. The company CTL has created a Chromebook called the J5, that stands out by being convertible and rugged.
This model sports Chrome OS and it features a 360 degree hinge, pretty much like Lenovo’s machines. It allows the device to be used both as a laptop or tablet, or folded into a tent configuration. J5 has a splashproof keyboard, plus a chassis that will take moderate drops. Destined for the educational market, the device packs an 11.6 inch IPS display and support 5 point touch input, as well as styli.
CTL J5 relies on a Braswell N3050 processor and 4 GB of RAM, while inside we also find 16 GB of RAM and a microSD card slot. Two USB 3.0 ports and HDMI output are also here, plus a HD webcam. The battery on board should provide around 10 hours of usage between charges, which sounds excellent. Expect a price below $300.
