It appears that some Chinese white box tablet vendors are starting to orient themselves to other product segments, seeing that slates are registering stagnant growth in demand and increasing price competition.


Device makers are now eyeing areas like smartphones, entry level notebooks, smartwatches and smart bands, plus probably Internet of Things gadgets. Even some big brands like Amazon have been affecting the sales of smaller Chinese brands, of the white box kind. Upstream component suppliers have also chosen higher level partners, leaving the smaller companies out to dry.

Wearables are still ripe for the taking and a segment open for growth over the next 5 years. Some white box makers have gone as far as to work in the electric vehicle industry, but that segment is still in early development. The shift could also put extra pressure on companies still in the biz.
