ASUS has just confirmed what everyone has been waiting for: the Ice Cream Sandwich update of the Eee Pad Transformer tablet and the Eee Pad Slider. Android 4.0 will arrive ASAP on these devices, after it reaches the quad core Transformer Prime on January 12 as previously reported. The exact rollout of the upgrades is a mystery yet, but it’s safe to say we’ll have them by Spring.

It will be an OTA process rather than one that involves connecting the tablet to a PC, in case you’re wondering. In the meantime ASUS is also preparing a bootloader unlock for the Prime, but you should know that using it will void your warranty for the slate. The support team behind this Asian company promised to post an update on what changes the new software will bring to the Eee Pad series next week and they said that we might also get an ETA on the arrival at the same time.

For one thing I’m glad we’re getting rid of Honeycomb, that was filled with bugs, issues, force closes and a nasty lag. It really spoiled the experience on tablets, while ICS seems more fluid and more viable for portable computing. Of course, the usual bugs and problems are to be expected, since these are early releases for the first tablets out there…
