There are two tablet niches that have been attacked quite a lot recently by slate makers: tablets for kids and gaming tablets. Archos has both and now its ChildPad Tablet has hit the FCC, gearing up for an US release. This is the sketch that shows us the format of the device:
The product is a kid-friendly gadget and from what I understood this is an 8 inch model that will follow up a 7 inch model. There are no details about this newcomer, other than its diagonal size. We do know that it will support a 1024 x 768 pixel resolution and we’ve heard voices saying it may sport HDMI output, although kids could have lived without it.
For those of you who don’t know, the 7 inch ChildPad already exists on the market. It comes with Android ICS running behind a software customization and it supports merely a 800 x 480 pixel resolution. The device has 4 GB of built in storage, a microSDHC card slot and it measures 0.48 inches in thickness. The slate weighs 380 grams.
