It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 4 years since Apple launched its last iPad Mini. Together with the iPod Touch, these are considered remnants of the past, which aren’t prone to successors. Reports show that both may be resurrected and the iPad Mini 5 at least has leaked a bunch of times. The latest such leak has to do with a series of TPU cases.
They show small changes compared to the iPad Mini 4, like the presence of quad stereo speakers and also the presence of a LED flash for the back camera. There’s also a Smart Connector, borrowed from the iPad Pro. The TPU cases of course can be faked or rushed to get hype for the case maker, but they sound pretty well aligned to the previous rumors.
No major external changes will happen, so the format stays the same. The Touch ID sensor is here to stay, as well as the big bezels, at the top and bottom. The audio jack also escapes unscathed. The biggest change will happen inside the device, where we’re expected to see a new CPU, maybe even the Apple A12 Bionic.
More RAM and storage won’t hurt, as well as Apple Pencil support. We could see the device unveiled on March 25th, when Apple has already confirmed an event, associated more with a streaming service.
