Believe it or not the Apple related rumors today have to do with Apple iPad Mini 5. It’s been a long while since we last heard of such a device and at some point it seemed that the iPad Mini series was canned. Well, not actually, according to reputed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Let’s check out his theories.
As you probably know already, Apple has an event scheduled for October 30, when it’s going to unveil new iPad Pro models, a refreshed Mac and more. Kuo claims that an iPad Mini refresh is incoming, perhaps not this month, but in 2019. It was all mentioned in a note sent to investors. The iPad Pro refresh we kept hearing about appears again, with the same narrower screen bezels, new Apple Pencil and new connector.
Then there’s the low price notebook, a new MacBook Air replacement with a smaller diagonal. As far as the new iPad Mini goes, that one is expected in 2019, with an upgraded processor, a new lower cost panel and perhaps its own taste of Face ID. Right now the current lower end iPad is priced at around $329. The iPad Mini 4 still sells for around $399 in the 128 GB storage version, but its Apple A8 CPU is clearly dated.
Kuo also believes that the Macbooks, iMacs and Mac Minis will get updated. New AirPods and AirPower charging pad are slated for a late 2018 or early 2019 debut. The iPad Mini was first introduced in 2012 and it was well received, till it seemingly died off in 2015, with the iPad Mini 4. If the new 7.9 inch slate does come this year, it’s probably just a minor update, if it comes next year, it’s probably a totally new model, notch and all.
