People who bought the second gen Amazon Paperwhite will be unhappy to know that the first gen models have just received an update that makes them just as good as the second gen models.

This means they get Goodreads integration, Cloud Collections and the new page skimming feature. The update was pushed this week to the first gen Paperwhites and it added all those features to the older model. Other stuff you get is inline footnotes, a vocabulary builder, improved bookmarks and highlights.

Basically, the Paperwhite 2 experience is transplanted to the first model and everything is here except the new CPU and better backlight. Amazon has done a swell job with this one and I wonder what updates they’re preparing for the Kindle Fire models, if any… By the way, don’t you feel that Goodreads is getting omnipresent in today’s e-reading world?
