For some reason Amazon didn’t launch the latest Fire 7 tablet and the Fire HD 8 model in Canada, but this week they finally debuted up north. They’re available starting December 7th, priced at $59.99 (CAD) and $99.99 (CAD) respectively.

While the tablet market has been dropping continuously since 2014, Amazon has remained quite high in the stats. That’s thanks to its low priced tablets, with pretty OK specs and the willingness of its fans to accept the locked down environment, just to enjoy the special offers and content from Amazon Prime. The Fire 7 offers you a 7 inch 1024 x 600 pixel IPS display, 8 GB of storage, a microSD card slot and up to 8 hours of battery life.

Fire HD 8 sounds a bit better, with an 8 inch 1280 x 800 pixel display, up to 12 hours of battery life and 16 GB of storage. There’s also a microSD card slot and we’ve got the same CPU on both units: a quad core 1.3 GHz unit, plus a 2 MP main cam and a VGA front shooter. Dual band WiFi is here, 1.5 GB of RAM too and the 8 inch model has the advantage of Dolby Atmos dual stereo speakers, which the smaller unit doesn’t have.

The 7 incher weighs 295 grams and the 8 incher 369 grams. They drop just in time for the holiday shopping season I’d say.
