It’s time to take things to a new level, as we unbox a detachable this time, not just a regular 2 in 1 tablet. It’s dubbed Acer Aspire Switch 12S and it comes with a Core M CPU, while also coming with a bundled keyboard. Priced at $999 in the Core m3 version and $1199 in the Core m5 one, this model is a 12.5 incher, that gets detailed below.
It runs Windows 10 Home and inside the box we only found a big charger, so big a laptop would be jealous. The commercial version may offer more accessories, but we have a demo unit. This product is available with 4 or 8 GB of RAM, a Full HD 16:9 screen and 128 or 256 GB of SSD storage. It opts for an anodized aluminum shell and connects magnetically to the keyboard, that brings two USB 3.0 ports and golden hinges.
The keyboard is able to light up and has pretty soft keys, so it’s more for typing than gaming. One of the core features of the Acer Aspire Switch 12S is the Intel RealSense back camera, able to scan objects in 3D and capture them with a sense of depth. The tablet itself brings a Thunderbolt 3 and micro HDMI port, a zero air gap IPS screen with Gorilla Glass 4 protection and WiFi a/b/g/n/.
The overall package weighs 1.4 kg, not bad for a 12 inch laptop, with a very solid metal build. It’s a big device for sure, but not hugely heavy. The stereo speakers placed below the screen are a nice touch and the Intel HD Graphics 515 is only decent, so you won’t be playing GTA V on this model anytime soon. This has been a good first contact with the device and we’ll be back with a full review soon. You can get the Aspire Switch 12S here.
