Apple is taking yet another approach of the iPad fame, by making it available as a learning tool in countries that are striving for development. For example, the African nation of Zimbabwe will get solar-powered iPads, courtesy of Apple and the government of the country.
The result of this idea will be the eco-friendly tablets, that will reach rural schools all over the country. Zimbabwean minister of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture David Coltart recently met with Apple officials in Paris and had a meeting that resulted in this “School Box” program, that brings computers as means of education to the African country.
This is just step one, that will certainly be followed by more and more countries if the result are good. The majority of rural schools in Zimbabwe have a problem even with the basic infrastructure and an idea like this could be a gold mine and a cost effective way of bringing learning to everyone. Plus, as a personal note… Steve Jobs would be proud of that!
