A new series of rumors concerning future Apple products dropped today and it involves a 9 inch foldable device, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. There’s also a foldable iPhone mentioned by the source, but only associated with 2025 and further.

Kuo has said that Apple is “actively testing” a device with a 9 inch foldable OLED screen and a PPI between the iPhone and iPad. The device is supposed to be used to evaluate and verify key technologies involved in Apple’s future foldables. Apple will take a different approach from the other companies and it may focus on medium-sized devices, followed by larger display devices and finally iPhones.

Samsung launched a few foldable phones and now it’s working on foldable tablets or even double or triple foldables. Lenovo on the other hand went straight to the foldable laptop. Kuo previously predicted a foldable iPhone drop as soon as 2024, but now he revised it to 2025. There’s also a report coming from South Korea, which claims that Apple is working with LG to develop a foldable OLED display panel with ultra thin cover glass for future Apple laptops and also tablets.

LG Display already showcased a 17 inch foldable OLED panel at CES earlier this year and found a client already: HP, which will release a foldable laptop using that panel. LG also supplied the panel for the 13.3 inch foldable laptop Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold. Apple could also work with LG, but it will need a very large volume of panels.

The bottom line is that a foldable MacBook may happen sooner than an iPhone.
