Samsung Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra

Samsung’s next large-screen productivity tablet appears set to remain on MediaTek silicon. A Geekbench 7 listing for model SM-X940, believed to be the Wi-Fi version of the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra, identifies a Dimensity 9500 chipset, 12GB of RAM, and Android 17.

For buyers watching Samsung’s highest-end Android tablet line, the result suggests a continuation rather than a return to Snapdragon. The prior Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra used MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400+, while this early S12 Ultra entry appears to move to the next-generation Dimensity 9500. The clock speeds shown in the listing align with the standard chip rather than a possible Dimensity 9500+ variant.

Early numbers, not a full performance picture

The benchmark reports one primary CPU core at 4.21GHz, three cores at 3.50GHz, and four cores at 2.70GHz. It recorded 2,760 points in Geekbench 7’s single-core test and 9,291 points in its multi-core test.

Those figures should not be compared directly with Geekbench 6 results, since the two benchmark versions use different tests. They also cannot answer the more important questions for an oversized work-and-entertainment tablet: sustained performance, cooling behavior, and battery life remain unknown.

A familiar ultra-large tablet direction

Previous reports have pointed to a 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz refresh rate and an 11,600mAh battery. Memory configurations are expected to start at 12GB, with 16GB rumored for select higher-storage versions. These specifications have not been confirmed by Samsung.

The Galaxy Tab S12 family is expected to include the Tab S12+ and Tab S12 Ultra, with no standard Tab S12 currently anticipated. Samsung is expected to introduce the new tablets in September, though the company has not announced a date, pricing, or U.S. availability. For now, the Geekbench appearance chiefly signals that the Ultra model is again being built around a MediaTek flagship chip for users who want Samsung’s largest Android tablet.
