Amazon debuted today out of nowhere new Fire HD 8 tablets. These are the 10th gen Amazon Fire HD 8 and Amazon Fire HD 8 Plus tablets, with faster CPUs, extra RAM and wireless charging. The starting price is $89.99 and we’ve got the products detailed below.

Amazon Fire HD 8 now gets two new 2020 models, with faster WiFi, faster CPU, more RAM and more storage. Another bump is the use of an USB-C port. Also, the $89.99 price tag is a $10 bump from the predecessor. Fire HD 8 Plus comes with wireless charging and it’s available at $110 and up. Both new models come with a 2 GHz quad core CPU, an 8 inch 1280 x 800 pixel touchscreen display and stereo speakers. There’s also a 3.5 mm audio jack, WiFi ac support, Bluetooth 5.0 LE and USB-C ports.

Camera-wise, we 2 MP front and back shooters, while internals include 32 GB or 64 GB of storage, a microSD card slot and beefed up batteries. Amazon Fire HD 8 Plus packs 3 GB of RAM, while the Fire HD 8 has 2 GB. The Plus model also brings a 9W wired charger, which juices up the table tin 4 hours. The standard model has a 5W charger and takes 5 hours to provide a full charge. Both also work with separately sold 15W chargers sold separately (3 hours of charge).

Another reason to purchase the Amazon Fire HD 8 Plus is the 6 month Kindle Unlimited subscription for free. Battery life is rated at 12 hours on a single charge for these models. There’s also an Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Edition, with a base price of $140 and one year of Amazon FreeTime parental control and kids content app.
