We’ve been hearing for a while that Apple is experimenting with next gen screens for its iPads, Apple Watches and iPhones and now it seems that Mini LED screens are the way to go. The technology will be inaugurated on the iPad Air, which may also sport a Touch ID sensor embedded in the screen.
According to Twitter user @L0vetodream, who has a decent track record of sharing legit Apple info, Apple is said to feature a full screen display with no notch on a future iPad. The last year iPad Air had a physical Home button, but the future model may lack it. The iPad Air is quite the long standing series, since it debuted in 2013, was followed by the iPad Air in 2014 and then it took 5 years till it came to life again with the iPad Air 2019, from March last year.
We’ve also heard that because of the Coronavirus, Apple’s first Mini LED iPad could be pushed back to early 2021, instead of 2020. Some sources even claim it’s not an iPad Air, but rather a future iPad Pro. We’ve heard of this before, since back in March TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that the Mini LED technology would make it to a 12.9 inch iPad. Mini LED has the advantage of involving a very slim panel, which keeps the iPad slim and light.
It will also have all the advantages of OLED, like color accuracy and vividness, high contrast and high dynamic range, plus energy efficiency. Touch ID has been dead for a while though and I don’t know if bringing it back is smart. right now. Face ID is faster and more secure, but it may require the ugly notch, or at least a partial cutout. I should probably mention that mini LED is not microLED, with is a futuristic tech, which Samsung, Sony and other companies are working on and using on expensive TV sets.
