Microsoft’s event from the past 24 hours brought us a new Surface Pro tablet, the Surface Pro 6, but also a new Surface Laptop. The newcomer is dubbed Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 and it’ll come on October 16th priced at $999 and up. We have details below.
Microsoft claims that the Surface Laptop is going to be 85% faster than its predecessor, courtesy of the move to an 8th gen Intel Core processor. You can opt up to a Core i7 CPU, plus 16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB of SSD storage. That version is priced at $2699. Those who want to spend less end up with 8 GB of RAM, a Core i5 CPU and 128 GB of storage. The laptop weighs 2.8 pounds and measures 0.6 inches in thickness.
The Surface Laptop 2 is said to offer an excellent 14.5 hours of battery life and it comes with Instant On capabilities, as well as support for Windows Hello face recognition. On the connectivity front we’ve got an USB 3.0 port, a mini DisplayPort, an audio jack and a Surface Connect Port. There’s also a backlit keyboard, which Microsoft has now made quieter and comfier.

The screen is a 13.5 inch one with a 2256 x 1504 pixel resolution and touch capabilities. We also have a 1500:1 contrast ratio. Just like the predecessor, the notebook comes covered with Alcantara fabric on the palm rest. Microsoft will make the device available in silver, black, burgundy and blue. It runs Windows 10 Home (preinstalled) and it’ll start shipping on October 16th in USA.
I find it odd that there’s no Windows 10 Pro here.
