Huawei MediaPad M5 has leaked before, thanks to FCC certifications and also Bluetooth SIG ones, but now it’s time for some renders to pop up. The device is shown in what appear to be official sketches. For those of you wondering why the jump from MediaPad M3 to M5, the number “4” is unlucky in China, so that’s why.
Anyway, the grayscale renders show us both a 10.1 inch and an 8.4 inch model, which is a new development. The SHT-W09 M5 passed the FCC certification last week, without a 3.5 mm audio jack, which seems to have returned now. I also expect some serious Harman Kardon acoustics on board, since the predecessor had them too. Dual or even quad speakers are to be expected.
The MediaPad M5 is said to have a 2.5D glass panel upfront, a unibody metal case and an USB Type-C connector. The hardware that leaked so far sounds reasonable: a 4980 mAh battery, a Kirin 960 processor and 4 GB of RAM. The screen will offer a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution and we could see this product debuting at MWC 2018 in late February. The physical Home button with fingerprint scanner looks kind of ugly, I have to say.
I expect a 13 MP back camera, a solid selfie shooter and most likely EMUI 8.0 on top of Oreo.
