We’ve got some experience with the GPD gaming tablets, having played with one or two till now. We’ve even unboxed one such machine and now there’s another one coming, which just leaked. The device goes by the name of GPD Win 2 and it’s a handheld gaming PC with a 6 inch screen. The specs get detailed below.
We’re talking about a Core M3 slate, that brings a bigger screen, faster CPU and an improved keyboard. There’s some waiting involved though, as the product will go up for preorder via an Indiegogo campaign come January 15th and it’ll ship around April 2018. The specs include a 6 inch 720p display with Gorilla Glass 4 protection, an Intel Core M3-7Y30 Kaby Lake processor and 8 GB of RAM.
There’s 128 GB of SSD storage here, WiFi ac, Bluetooth 4.2 and stereo speakers. Interestingly GPD went with dual 4900 mAh batteries and dual vibration motors. On the connectivity front things are generous, with an USB Type-C port, USB 3.0 (full USB), micro HDMI and microSD. All of that is crammed into a 1 inch thick and 1 pound heavy product. People in the know claim that this console will have a heatsink and fan, so it should be able to move air around and dissipate heat.
It also means that the device won’t exactly be silent, but I can live with that. The keyboard has been redesigned, now stretching across the device, which should make typing quite comfy. There are still thumbsticks here, action buttons and a D pad, plus a generous Space key. No info on pricing but the sum of $400 is being thrown around.
