ASUS VivoBook Flip 14 is now selling, as a brand new entry level convertible laptop, priced at $549. The Flip 14 TP401 model is pictured below and I have to say it’s quite the looker. More premium than a Chromebook and more versatile than your average laptop, this may well be an item for the education segment.
Based on the seventh gen Intel Core m3 chipset, of the Kaby Lake-Y variety, this convertible has a rotating hinge, that lets it be turned into a tablet. At its core it’s a 14 inch laptop with a HD resolution and the screen is able to fit within a 13 inch laptop frame, courtesy of very narrow bezels (73% screen to body ratio). Its’ got a 360 degree rotating metal hinge, that lets it operate in tablet and laptop mode and it’s made of aluminum.
The thickness is 15.4 mm and the weigh is 3.3 pounds. Inside there’s the 7th gen Intel Core m3-7Y30 processor, a dual core CPU with 4 threads, clocked at 1 GHz. The boost clock rate is 2.6 though and the good thing about is that it has a TDP of just 4.5 watts. There’s also 4 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi ac, microUSB and USB Type-C. An SD card reader and micro HDMI also made the cut and folks looking to chat up relatives have a VGA camera to use.
ASUS SonicMaster takes care of acoustics, with virtual surround support. This device even works with an ASUS Pen, that supports 1024 levels of pressure. The battery on board is a 39 Wh unit and it’s supposed to last one full day. The product is on sale right now at $549 from ASUS itself and Amazon.
