HP just announced at MWC 2017 a new tablet, the HP Pro x2 612, a 2 in 1 model with Windows 10. It’s built around security and productivity and the price starts at $979. This is clearly a Surface rival, with a 12 inch screen and lots of enterprise functions, like beefed up security.
Inside the device we find the Intel 7th gen processor, including the M3-7Y30, that can go to a Core i7-7Y75 and also uses Intel HD Graphics 615. Such a CPU choice permits HP to go with a fanless design, which is useful in hospitals and industrial sites, where spills may damage the fan area. Specs include 8 GB of RAM, up to 512 GB of storage, a smart card reader and a microSD card slot.
There’s also USB Type C connectivity, USB 3.0 and a SIM card slot for mobile connectivity. On the camera front, there’s a 5 MP front camera and an 8 MP back shooter. This is a military tested machine, with the MIL-STD 810G tests checked out. It also has the HP Sure Start Gen 3 for BIOS monitoring, full size and aluminum accented HP Pro x2 Collaboration Keyboard, as well as a fingerprint reader and a 165 degree kickstand.
The HP Active Pen is thrown in for good measure. A 41 Whr battery powers the joint and HP fast charge is also here. It all weighs 1.2 kg and the SSD is easily removable in case you need protection for sensitive data.
