The ASUS MeMO Pad 8, the 8 inch version of one of the tablets we liked the most last year has arrived in Japan, where it’s available on the local carrier KDDI. The product was announced in September and released in November, but this time instead of its quad core ARM CPU it gets an Intel one.
The device runs Android 4.4 and relies on an Intel Z3580 processor, making this one of the first slates with an Intel Moorefield CPU. The Moorefield CPU series is based on the same architecture as the Intel Merrifield chips, but with higher clock speeds, better graphics performance and a quad core setup. The Merrifield was a dual core setup alone. Don’t get too excited, because the MeMO Pad 8 will only come to the stores in Japan in August.
Specs here include an 8 inch 1920 x 1200 pixel display, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage and the above mentioned 2.33 GHz quad core Moorefield CPU. There’s a 533 MHz PowerVR G6430 GPU, a 5 megapixel rear camera, 1.2 MP front shooter and a microSD card slot with 64 GB support. LTE and WiMAX support is also included.
