Allwinner and Rockchip were present at the same event in Hong Kong, an Electronics Fair that featured their latest CPUs. Allwinner brought their A80 Octa CPU and the 1.8 GHz Allwinner A23.
The latter is a dual core Cortex A7 unit clocked at 1.5 GHz, but it has been upgraded to a 1.8 GHz version. This is a 40 nm chip with ARM Mali 400 MP2 GPU and support for a max resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. There was also an Allwinner A80 Octa showcased, an 8 core CPU based on the big.LITTLE architecture in the heterogenous multi processing version.
This means we get a quad core Cortex A7 setup and a quad core Cortex A15 setup. What’s more, Allwinner promised support for Android, as well as Windows RT and Chrome OS. Rockchip were also present with a quad core ARM Cortex A12 unit, that involves an ARM Mali T624 28 nm chip with resolutions going up to 3840 x 2160 pixels.
The architecture of a Cortex A12 is similar to the one of a Cortex A15, so there’s potential here.
