IFA 2012 wasn’t all about bigshot products like the Galaxy Note II or the new Sony Xperia models, but also about the cheaper devices. Such is the case of the Eken G70, a Chinese tablet going for $99 and packing Android 4.0 ICS on board. This is the kind of product that sells in bulk and companies from all over the world buy it and apply their own branding to it.
This device incorporates a 3G modem and it was caught on camera by the folks of tabletblog.de, showing a video preview below. Eken’s new toy offers a mini HDMI and mini USB port, a full USB port, as well as a SIM slot and a Huawei 3G modem. The product relies on a Cortex A8 processor, a back camera, as well as a front one and it has a 7 inch display with a 800 x 480 pixel resolution. There’s a slight lag of the UI, as shown in the video and the gallery app was strangely missing.
For $99 this is what you get nowadays, but if you add an extra $70 or so you can get the more than decent Kindle Fire S, so bargains aren’t what they used to be. Still, this is a 3G tablet, with a back camera, SIM slot, full USB port, which are its main advantage. Wonder if it does phone calls…
