While ASUS is pushing Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to the Transformer TF300, Motorola is struggling to get Ice Cream Sandwich to one of its devices. It’s as if ASUS was bought by Google and not Motorola, frankly speaking… The Xyboard tablet, in the WiFi version has just received the OTA update to Android 4.0 in USA.
The new features it brings include an updated browser with faster rendering, zoom and pan. Users can also save pages for offline reading and request the desktop version of sites. The updated applies to both the WiFi Xyboard 10.1 and 8.2 units. Back to the features, thanks to the update, users can swipe to dismiss notifications and recent apps and they also get a redesigned app launcher. In All Apps launcher you can now drag an app to get info about it, disable it or uninstall it.
There’s also a new system font for better readability, the famous Roboto, optimized for big resolutions. Text input, spell checking and contacts have been updated as well. The camera UI has received an upgrade and now you can take snapshots at full video resolution while filming. Panorama mode is also here and back to the main UI, you get richer and resizable widgets. While all of these are common features nowadays, they were not on the Xyboard until hours ago.
