It’s not the first time we have a government is spending serious money to buy tablets for education and now the Thai authorities join the list. According to The Next Web, they’ve struck a deal that involves purchasing 400.000 Android 4.0 tablets from Shenzhen Scope, at $81 per unit.

They could purchase a further 530k tablets, for a total spending of $75.7 million. The Indian government also purchased in bulk the $35 Aakash slates, for education purposes as well. As far as the tablets bought by the Thai government are concerned, the Scopad SP0712 units run Android 4.0 ICS, feature a 7 inch display, 8GB of storage and 1GB of RAM. They also have GPS and Shenzhen Scope says that they could make deals with governments from other countries, too.

Pakistan, Brazil and South Africa are the countries that could do the same thing and import Android 4.0 tablets for education purposes. We’ve heard of countries doing the same with iPads, but that costs a lot more…
