A fresh leak suggests that Xiaomi is preparing the next generation of its compact performance tablet, the Redmi K Pad 2, and this time the upgrade looks more substantial than expected. The first-gen Redmi K Pad launched in China last year and later reached global markets as the Xiaomi Pad Mini. Now, according to well-known tipster Digital Chat Station, the follow-up model is already in development and aims to push the compact-tablet formula further. It could end up as the Xiaomi Pad Mini 2.

Although the leak does not mention the device by name, the specifications align closely with what would be expected from a K Pad successor. The tablet is said to feature a custom 8.8-inch LCD panel with a 165 Hz refresh rate and 3K resolution – the same size and resolution as the original model, maintaining its focus on gaming-grade smoothness. The internal upgrades appear more notable: the K Pad 2 is reportedly moving to a flagship-level processor, supported by dual X-axis linear motors for improved haptic feedback and upgraded symmetrical dual speakers with co-tuned audio for a more balanced soundstage.

One of the headline improvements is the battery. The Redmi K Pad 2 is expected to pack a 9,000 mAh cell, a major step up from the 7,500 mAh unit in the previous generation. Charging specs and camera details have not surfaced yet, leaving some room for speculation as the device moves closer to launch.

Redmi introduced the first K Pad alongside the Redmi K80 Ultra. According to the new leak, the K Pad 2 is likely to debut in a similar pairing, this time next to the upcoming Redmi K90 Ultra, with a launch window positioned in the first half of the year. A May–June release seems the most plausible timeframe. As before, the tablet is expected to ship globally under a different name, likely Xiaomi Pad Mini 2, targeting regions where the K-series branding is not used.
