Xiaomi Pad 8 and Pad 8 Pro are shaping up to be bigger, faster, and longer-lasting than last year’s models — but not necessarily more vibrant. According to reliable leaker Digital Chat Station, the company is preparing a slate of upgrades that should help the new tablets stand out from the Pad 7 and Pad 7 Pro, even if the displays remain firmly in IPS territory.

Fresh from 3C certification filings, the leak suggests the Pad 8 will keep the 45W wired charging of its predecessor, while the Pro model sticks with 67W. The real headline here is battery capacity: both devices are reportedly jumping to around 10,000mAh — a roughly 13 percent boost that could translate into noticeably better endurance, especially for media-heavy use.

Under the hood, Xiaomi is said to be slotting in more powerful chipsets than the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 and 8s Gen 3 powering the Pad 7 duo. That means we could see a significant performance lift for multitasking, gaming, and creative apps. Just don’t expect OLED this time around — DCS claims both models will stick with 11.16-inch high-refresh-rate LCDs similar to last year’s.

There’s a twist, though. The tipster hints that Xiaomi might finally introduce an OLED option with the rumored Pad 8 Ultra, a variant that could sit above the Pro in the lineup. If true, that would make it the company’s first premium OLED tablet, and a direct competitor to the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S series and Apple’s iPad Pro.

With a September launch window still in play, we might not have to wait long to see whether Xiaomi’s bigger batteries and faster silicon are enough to offset the lack of OLED.
