The spotlight may have been on the Xiaomi 17 smartphones at the company’s latest launch event on September 25th, but tablets had their moment too. Xiaomi officially unveiled the Pad 8 and Pad 8 Pro, two new devices that aim to push the brand’s tablet lineup further into the premium space while keeping competitive pricing.

Both models come equipped with an 11.2-inch LCD display boasting 3.2K resolution, 144Hz refresh rate, and 800 nits peak brightness. The panels support HDR10, HDR Vivid, Dolby Vision, and full DC dimming, making them suitable for both binge-watching and gaming. Xiaomi is also introducing a Matte edition with an AG coating that reduces reflections by up to 70%, catering to those who prefer minimal glare.

The tablets share a slim profile at 5.75mm and weigh 485 grams, maintaining a sleek yet solid feel. Both pack a 9,200mAh battery, but charging speeds differ: the Pad 8 supports 45W, while the Pro steps up to 67W fast charging. Quad speakers with Dolby Atmos, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and HyperOS 3 (Android 16-based) round out the common features. Connectivity is equally robust, with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and USB-C across both devices.

The real separation between the two tablets lies under the hood. The Xiaomi Pad 8 runs on the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, with configurations up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The Pad 8 Pro uses Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite, supporting up to 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, clearly aimed at power users and gamers.

Camera setups also differ significantly. The Pad 8 features a 13MP rear shooter and an 8MP selfie camera, while the Pad 8 Pro upgrades to a 50MP rear sensor and a 32MP front-facing unit—a big step forward for video calls and content creation.

Both models come in Black, Turquoise Green, and Ice Crystal Blue finishes. Pricing starts at CNY 2,199 ($310) for the base Pad 8 (8GB/128GB) and goes up to CNY 2,799 ($390) for the top 12GB/256GB variant. The Matte edition ranges from CNY 2,699 ($380) to CNY 2,999 ($420) depending on RAM and storage.

The Pad 8 Pro starts at CNY 2,799 ($390) for the 8GB/128GB variant and peaks at CNY 3,899 ($550) for the 16GB/512GB version. Matte Pro models begin at CNY 3,599 ($505), topping out at CNY 4,099 ($575) for the fully loaded configuration.
