We’re getting close to one year since the Wikipad gaming tablet was showcased at CES 2012 and still the product hasn’t launched. It was actually supposed to debut yesterday, on October 31st on Halloween day at major stores, but suddenly the slate got delayed from Gamestop and the likes.
The company behind the device announced the product will be delayed “until further notice”. Wikipad’s statement says that the tablet was not ready for launch and they go ahead and promise an enhanced bundle with the gaming device, including a special bonus gift for those who already preordered at GameStop. We have no idea what the extras will be, but I expect a gift card or something like it, plus some free games. GameStop have stopped taking preorders for the product, which is a bad sign…
The Wikipad is supposed to come with a $499 price tag, running Android on a quad core Tegra 3 1.4GHz processor and also packing 16 GB of storage and a microSD card slot. There’s a multi use port on board that can be turned into HDMI output with the aid of an adaptor. The device runs Jelly Bean 4.1 and it has a custom UI for browsing titles in various game stores. Google Play, PlayStation Mobile and Tegra Zone are included, to name just a few.
