The Volla Tablet is an unusual device, a 12.3 inch tablet, that has a very high resolution and runs… Android without Google. We’re dealing with a device that sports a MediaTek Helio G99 processor, so it’s lower specced.
It has a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels and comes with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage. It offers support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 4G LTE. It ships either with something called Volla OS, an OS based on Android, but without Google or the Linux-based Ubuntu Touch. Volla did a crowdfunding campaign to get this product going.
Now it has announced that it will be shipping models in the next days. The retail price is $733 and the Volla Tablet is priced like a premium tablet. It comes with a 3 year old processor and some decent cameras: 13 MP + 5 MP at the back and a 5 MP front shooter. Volla OS uses a custom launcher and UI, plus tracker blocking and other features focused on privacy and the likes.
There’s no Play Store here or other Google apps, so it’s a Huawei-like situation. There is support for alternate app stores like F-Droid and Aurora Store. Volla OS is based on Android 14.
