A recent survey compared the Apple iPad sales with the Microsoft Surface tablet sales and found the results to be… laughable. It appears that 11 Apple iPads were sold per hour versus zero Microsoft Surface slates and we’re talking about Black Friday here.

Gene Munster’s team at Piper Jaffray did the comparison, that’s supported by hard numbers. The crew at Munster spent 8 hours on Black Friday to count the people entering the Apple Store in the Mall of America in Minneapolis. The same staff monitored the traffic at the Microsoft Store that was right across the hall. The results showed that there was 47% less foot traffic at the Microsoft outlet than at the Apple one. The shoppers bought 17.1 items per hour at the Apple Store and only 3.5 items per hour at the Microsoft Store.

The majority of purchases from Microsoft stores were Xbox games, which was to be expected, frankly speaking. I wonder how many of them were Call of Duty Black Ops II titles… Anyway, you should also know that customers of the Apple Store on the day of the study bought an average of 11 iPads per hour. As far as the Microsoft Store goes, people bought ZERO Surface tablets during the two hours of monitoring, which is quite sad, considering the big advertising push in USA behind the Surface.
