Microsoft is said to be working on a Surface Pro Mini tablet for 2 years now and today we get fresh rumors about the device. It would appear that the 8 inch slate could launch this year. A certain Surface Pro Mini has been slightly detailed by an Australian publication.

The device is said to be launched at the same time with Windows 10 and the Surface Pro 4 tablet. The Surface Pro Mini is said to feature an 8 inch screen, competing with the likes of Nexus 7 and iPad Mini, in the same segment. Last May Microsoft was pretty much sure to unveil a Surface Mini, according to the entire press, but that didn’t happen.

Instead we got the Surface Pro 3. CEO Satya Nadella mentioned that the company wasn’t ready to reveal the Surface Mini and rumors said the project had been caned. Then @evleaks came at some point and said the project had been restarted, with the device being in stores last summer. Well, that didn’t happen and now new rumors appear. The Surface Mini is said to offer a 7.5 inch screen with a 1440 x 1080 pixels resolution and 4:3 aspect ratio.

Inside there’s a Qualcomm CPU, but there’s also an option for Intel to be on board. USB support, microSD and Windows RT 8.1 are also mentioned.

Windows RT 8.1? Let us hope this is a hoax or for Qualcomm only. Of course, I’d choose Intel and full Windows. 4:3 is great. For (only) such a small device, the resolution is sufficient. I hope that, if indeed it is 7.5″, a 10″ version also appears and then with QXGA.

1st if all, I don’t think it’d be 7.5inch. Windows 10 can be used in desktop mode on 8inch screens, so why would MS launch 7.5 device when we already have phones with 7inch screens and so much can be achieved with an 8inch device? So 7.5 is pointless.

2ndly… Is anyone mad to mention any previous version of windows other than windows 10? $70 phones are supporting it. And knowing RT is already dead, why would take its name?
    Of course windows 10.

Personally I just hope that at least they DO launch a surface mini..and screen stays b/w 8-9inches to keep it handy like nexus 7..
