Sharp tablets are a big deal in Japan, especially since the models from the AQUOS brand have both good specs and good looks. Today we learn that the AQUOS Pad SH-06F model will get a special update on NTT DoCoMo, linked to the VoLTE network service.
The update will roll out on June 24th and it affects 6 devices on this network, including the Galaxy S5, Xperia Z2 and a few model. The Xperia Z2 Tablet is also on the list for a future VoLTE update in September. Why is this a big deal? Well, VoLTE is as far as I know voice over LTE, offering better voice quality on handsets and tablets. This is similar to VoIP, employed by Skype to support voice calls over broadband.
The new protocol offers faster and improved voice calls and also improved video calls, thanks to that high speed connection. Right now there are quite a few devices out there that support HD voice calls. Is there an upgrade from that? Is it possible to have calls that have an audio quality better than HD? I imagine that HiFi calls are not possible just yet…
