Samsung Mobile Display recently showcased the next-gen LCD-TFT screen for smartphones, that uses a new technology called PLS LCD. The Plan to Line Switching Display is better than the IPS technology on the Apple iPhone and Samsung claims an improvement of about 100% in viewing angle.
It appears that the new displays provide 10% more brightness and the PLS will support a resolution of up to WXGA type. An advantage is the price of the panels, that’s 15% lower and Samsung Mobile Display recently said that it has 30 key patents for this technology. Mass production for tablets and smartphones will debut in Q1 2011.
