Out of nowhere the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 FE 5G tablet became official today, after a period of leaks and speculations. It also got some name changes, going from Tab S7 Lite to Tab S7 FE 5G and others. The newcomer has been officially listed on the Samsung Germany website, which is pretty much a low key launch.
Priced at 649 euros, which is $792, the device comes wit a 12.4 inch IPS LCD panel with a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution. Inside we find 4 or 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB of storage. There’s also a microSD card slot and a generous 10.090 mAh battery with support for 45W fast charging. Sadly, the charger in the box has a more modest charging speed. The product also packs an 8 MP back camera with autofocus, plus a 5 MP front shooter for video calls. There are 3 built in microphones here, quad speakers with AKG tech and a bundled S-Pen stylus.
That one attaches magnetically to the back of the device, in a dedicated strip area and it’s a low latency pen with Soft Tip, that converts the handwriting into text in real time with low latency. It remains to be seen if it hits 8 ms latency like the Note 20 Ultra and Tab S7 Plus. We’re promised 13 hours of video playback time here, plus Android 11 and One UI 3.1 are in the mix. There’s also Samsung DeX, for a desktop-like experience, with a Start menu and taskbar.
Samsung also launched a keyboard cover for the device, available separately and not very different from the Tab S7 accessories. We also get split screen options for 3 apps on screen at the same time, Knox, Bixby and GPS, plus Bluetooth 5.0 and WiFi dual band. A microSD card slot is present, plus design apps are preinstalled, such as Noteshelf, Canva, Clip Studio Paint and more. A personal note: the Tab S7 FE 5G is pricier than the Tab S7 from last year by a few dozens of euros.
