Xiaomi may be preparing to expand its POCO lineup into tablets again, and the first entry in the Pad M series has already started making noise. The POCO Pad M1 has surfaced on both Xiaomi’s software support page and the FCC database, signaling that a global launch might be right around the corner. But here’s the twist: it doesn’t appear to be an entirely new product. Instead, it looks a lot like a rebadged version of the yet-to-launch Redmi Pad 2 Pro.
The POCO Pad M1 and Redmi Pad 2 Pro share the same internal model number (P83) in Xiaomi’s HyperOS code, suggesting they’re cut from the same cloth. Still, there are a couple of notable differences. The Redmi Pad 2 Pro is expected to ship with Qualcomm’s newer Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chip, while the FCC listing indicates the POCO Pad M1 will use the slightly older Snapdragon 7s Gen 3. That means POCO’s version might end up as the more affordable option, especially for international buyers.
Beyond the chipset shuffle, the hardware story isn’t fully clear yet—but it’s not hard to guess where things are heading. If POCO follows the Redmi template, we’ll likely see a 12.1-inch LCD with 2.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, along with configurations starting at 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. A 12,000mAh battery paired with 27W wired charging has also been tipped, which could make the M1 a long-lasting media machine.
The software side is more straightforward: the tablet should boot into HyperOS 2, Xiaomi’s latest UI that’s slowly rolling out across its ecosystem. Taken together, the POCO Pad M1 is shaping up to be a midrange tablet that doesn’t reinvent the category but could bring Redmi’s formula to more regions under POCO’s brand identity. We’ll need to wait for Xiaomi’s official word to see how much of Redmi’s DNA is left intact—and whether POCO’s first M-series Pad can carve out its own identity.
