Pixel Qi is a famous company, famous for its display technology that provides incredibly low power consumption. They created the display for the One Laptop Per Child project, so that’s why their achievements are important. The last years were filled with hopes that their technology would go mainstream, but that hasn’t happened just yet.
Pixel Qi is responsible with screens that are very readable in sunlight and adding to that low consumption they sound like the perfect displays. And now they’ve gone even further, announcing panels that match and exceed the Retina Display level. The contrast and saturation rival the ones of the iPad 3 and of course save a lot of battery life. The result is a device with a low power mode of the new display, that offers 100 times the power reduction of the peak power consumed by the iPad 3 screen.
The image above is a chart that compares the next gen Pixel Qi panel with the modern 9.7 to 10.1 inch slates. Viewing angle and color saturation are supposed to be equal if not better than the ones of the iPad 3 apparently. Will these claims be turned into real tablets and how power efficient will they be? I guess we’ll have to wait and see… right now this sounds like a brilliant technology.
