And here’s yet another phablet out there, the Pantech Vega R3 with a Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset, a quad core one. So, we have the LG Optimus Vu and Galaxy Note II battling out there, with an Optimus Vu II coming next month, but now there’s another interesting device, aside from the Chinese Oppo phablet.

Pantech’s Vega R3 is a monster of a device with the same processor inside as the one on the LG Optimus G: APQ8064 clocked at 1.5 GHz. There’s also 2 GB of RAM and a 13 megapixel camera, just like on the Optimus G. The 5.3 inch display from the R3 supports a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution and Pantech calls this a Natural IPS Pro LCD, a marketing term that’s foreign to us. The idea is that the display offers a “naturally colored, bright and clear image”, according to Pantech.

Other features include a 2600 mAh battery, larger than the 2100 mAh unit inside the LG Optimus G. I’m curious to see how the Adreno 320 GPU handles the 5.3 inch display and how the Pantech Vega R3 plays game. Anyway, the other specs include a microSD card slot, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi, microUSB 2.0, GPS, NFC and Android 4.0.4 ICS. A Jelly Bean update will come after launch, whenever that happens. The product weighs 169 grams and measures 9.95 mm in thickness. In Korea the device will debut on all 3 major carriers starting tomorrow.
