It’s been a while since we last covered an eReader and it’s time to do that again. This time we’re dealing with the Onyx BOOX Tab Mini C, a device with a 7.8 inch screen. It’s a color E Ink display by the way.

It’s been months since the 10.3 inch E Ink color tablet Onyx BOOX Tab Ultra C came out and now a lighter unit is available. The new Onyx BOOX Tab Mini C features an E Ink Kaleido 3 display with support for 4096 colors. There’s also a pressure sensitive pen, used for drawing and writing on the screen, as well as a Qualcomm octa core processor and 4 GB of LPDDR4X memory.

The smaller screen also means a drop in price, down to $450. The larger model is available for $600, by the way and offers a larger resolution display, close to the size of an A4 sheet of paper. The new one has twice as much storage and a 16 megapixel rear camera. It can show 300 pixels per inch of black and white content or 150 pixels per inch of color content.

Both models, the large and small use E Ink’s Kaleido 3 display tech. That one puts a color filter on top of a greyscale display, adding support for some color. You should expect colors to look a tad dull compared to a classic LCD or OLED display, which is typical for an E-Ink. Also, E Ink screens have generally slow refresh rates and are better for reading static content.

Other specs include a built in microphone, a 5000 mAh battery and a front light for adjustable color temperature.
