There’s a new Onyx eReader in town, this time a model priced below $200 and also sporting Android 10. It’s got a 6 inch display, an octa core processor and specs that would fit a budget tablet with Android. More details are found below.

The product also brings 32 GB of eMMC storage and I have to say that most of its features actually match the specs of the predecessor, Poke2. What makes the device special is the upgrade in a faster CPU, faster type of RAM and a newer version of Android. Onyx Boox Poke3 uses LPDDR4X memory, runs on Android 10 and offers support for Bluetooth 5.0. It gives up the microUSB port in favour of an USB-C one. Its predecessor only offer audio playback with headphones connected, but the new model also works with USB-C wired headphones, without a problem.

Onyx talks about the new model having an upgraded octa core CPU, but Notebook Italia says that the device has a Snapdragon 636, not exactly the newest chipset. Screen-wise, we’re getting an E Ink Carta display, with a 1488 x 1072 pixel resolution and a front light with adjustable color temperature and support for capacitive touch input. We also have a 1500 mAh battery, WiFi 6 and a microphone, but there’s no trace of speakers. Size-wise, this machine is 6.8 mm in thickness and weighs 150 grams.

You can preorder it from the Boox Shop for $190.
