Amplify is an educational segment of News Corp and it made an interesting announcement this week, unveiling an educational device. This is a 10 inch tablet with Android, that was designed for school classroom use.
The device will be presented to the public today at an SXSWedu event led by Joel Klein, News Corp exec VP. The slate offers the concept of “blended learning”, meaning it relies on both technology and traditional teaching methods. Each Amplify tablet will come with preloaded materials and manuals, that were selected and arranged by teachers. There’s even a notification system called “eyes on the teacher”, warning the young ones to keep their attention focused.
The testing of the product has already been done in 2012 and now the marketing wil begin. The WiFi only tablet model starts at $299 and it includes a 2 year subscription for $99. The Amplify Tablet Plus offers a 4G subscription and costs $349. The device will be preloaded with Google Apps for Education, Desmos graphing calculator, Projkect Noah science tools, Common Sense Media and the Encyclopaedia Britannica Merriam Webster Dictionary.
