NEC is certainly not the first brand that comes to mind when you think about tablets and smartphones, but they’re involved in making such products, in case you didn’t know. Now there’s a mystery tablet at the FCC and this one is made by NEC.

3G support is on its feature list and as usual, the specs list is pretty tiny, since the product isn’t officially announced just yet. WiFi is on board, as well as GSM and HSPA support. The device measures 22.26cm across, meaning that we’re most likely talking about a 7 inch touchscreen display on the slate. The model number/name is KMP7R4D1-1A, which doesn’t reveal anything about the product. I have one feeling though: having seen a NEC concept phone years ago, I imagine that this is a very hot looking device.

Hopefully it’s a more inspired design than the one of the Huawei MediaPad, a tablet with a look that I don’t quite dig. What do you think? Does NEC have what it takes to create an interesting tablet? I bet that it runs Android 4.0…
