Every time we hear about a new Microsoft hardware product being launched we instantly think about the Xbox. Today we spotted a Microsoft patent that refers to touch input that seems inspired from the control system of the same console.

Xbox Surface Controller

As you can see from the image included below, there’s a graphical user interface for input that can be displayed on a touch-based device. The inspiration comes from an Xbox 360 controller that was split in half and digitized for touch display. This shows that Microsoft is really interested in bringing gaming to future Windows 8 devices.

By the way, in case you haven’t heard, there’s an Xbox unveil brewing for late May and we also expect some launches at E3 and Build. We could see games developed for both the Xbox console and Windows 8 at the same time and with a unified control system. Of course, it would be easier to just give Win 8 devices USB Xbox controller support, right? Could we see a gaming Surface soon?
