Believe it or not, Microsoft is going to focus on tablets in its next Windows version. This platform might come sooner than expected, with a showcasing taking place by the end of Microsoft’s fiscal year in June. The info comes from a source at the Redmond company, also claiming that the new OS will borrow some elements from Apple’s interface.
Concepts from Windows Phone 7’s Metro UI will also be used and the starting point of the interface seems to have been the Media Center UI, that came with Windows XP in 2004. There’s also an internal marking point at Microsoft, called “Milestone 2”, most likely for Windows 8. If the company adopts its usual strategy, we might be seeing this platform out in July 2012, as Milestone 3 kicks in.
