We’ve seen the name Surface 2 mentioned before in a listing, but now we get it again, associated with some specs, this time. Many have speculated that the name Surface 2 may be chosen for the Surface RT follow-up, dropping the RT in order not to scare people with the failed product.
Now the Surface 2 is shown with a 1366 x 768 pixel screen and an Nvidia Tegra 4 processor. The discovery comes with the aid of GFXBench, but there’s no telling what the diagonal is. It could be 7 inches or 8 inches and the interesting bit here is the performance. The score is merely 573 frames in GFXBench, which is surprisingly low.
Other slates with a Tegra 4 chip get bigger scores, on Android. For example, the HP SlateBook x2 scores 951 frames and a mystery tablet that leaked at some point scored 1003 frames. The previous Surface RT slate scored 172, so at least we’ve got an improvement. And to think Tegra 4 has 72 GPU cores…
