Microsoft hasn’t even launched the Surface Duo in stores yet and already it’s hard at work on the Surface Duo Version 2.0. Turns out that they’re also making purchases for it, as Microsoft Romania integrated the local branch of the Finnish firm Movial.
The Surface Duo is rumored to come earlier than the expected Holiday season release, maybe even this summer. Surface Duo V2 should also be in the works, as Windows Central reports that the Surface Duo V2 is in the early stages of development and a team from Movial will be deeply involved. Microsoft hired the employees from Movial in Romania and that Finnish outfit does exactly what’s needed for the new device. They deal in software engineering, design services, focused on mobile and embedded devices. They have expertise in OS, driver and application layers.
Movial was founded in 2001 in Helsinki and also has offices in Taipei, San Francisco and Seattle. Back to the Surface Duo, the device was unveiled on October 1st 2019 and was received with a modest reaction, especially since it was constantly compared with the tons of leaks of the Surface Phone, its initial codename. It’s a dual screen device, but not a foldable. Instead it’s more like a Nintendo DS and closes and opens up like a book.
It has a Snapdragon 855 CPU, 6 GB of RAM and 64 or 256 GB of storage. There’s also a singular 11 MP camera on board and a rather small 3460 mAh battery. Thus, as you can see there are many things to upgrade on the Surface Duo V2: battery, CPU, it needs 5G, maybe a different hinge. It runs Android by the way, with a heavy Microsoft skin.
