Many people expected the Surface Pro 2 to be discontinued when the Surface Pro 3 came out and that’s exactly what’s happening these days. It appears that Microsoft chose to be quiet about it and discretely removed the product from its offer.
Various Microsoft stores have most stock of the Surface Pro 2 and Surface Pro 2 accessories sent back to Microsoft. A few stores are keeping units available for customer issues, in case those should appear. Many retailers are said to follow this trend, so they’re basically retiring the Surface Pro 2, to make room for the Pro 3. On the Microsoft Surface.com site in the “Products” area only the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 3 are in bold fonts, while the older models are pushed down with a lighter font.
You can still buy the Surface 2 from MS directly, obviously. Meanwhile, there’s speculation about a Lumia replacement for the Surface series, as mentioned by @evleaks himself. There’s a sequel to the Lumia 2520 tablet coming, possibly released around the same time as the Nokia McLaren, the new 3D touch Windows Phone handset that has been rumored for a bit. Anyway, if it’s Spring 2015 and we hear nothing about a new Surface, it’s pretty clear that Microsoft has steered things the Lumia way.
Or they may be waiting for Windows 9 to do it…
