Lenovo announced today the ThinkPad Tablet 2, a Windows 8 device with an optional digitizer and pen for precision input. It also has 3G wireless with special Lenovo Mobile Access pay as you go plans and 4G models available as well. The slate also has security features like a Fingerprint Reader, IT management technologies and corporate level service.
The ThinkPad 2 Tablet is based on the upcoming Intel Atom processor platform and it’s pretty thin, at 9.8mm and light at 600 grams. This is a 10.1 inch slate with support for both multi finger touch and an optional digitizer and pen, great for note taking. The device will get an optional keyboard and dock, that can be paired with the tablet for a laptop style experience. The connectivity includes a full size USB port, plus 3G and 4G wireless in some model versions.
You also get a HDMI port, wireless video streaming, front and rear cameras and video conferencing abilities. Using Windows 8 Pro and the Intel x86 architecture IT managers will get VPN access and use encryption and management tools. Lenovo also promises a full suite of packages, with sealed battery warranties and damage protection.
