Leap Frog has just announced the LeapPad 2 tablet, a product for children. Leap Frog says that this is a big upgrade compared to the original LeapPad, since it comes with an improved CPU, a LF 2000 one. There’s also 4 GB of memory on board and a resilient exterior shell. The last is required since we all know who kids like to toss around their gear.
LeapPad 2 sadly lacks Internet access, but Leap Frog offers instead its very own library of learning games and apps. After all, the Internet is pretty bad for a child nowadays, right? The device is also backward compatible with LeapPad cartridges, so if you were the owner of the original LeapPad, you won’t have to buy new ones. Apps for the tablet cost $5 apiece, while cartridges go for $24.99. Kind of pricey…
Aside from the new CPU and more storage, the slate incorporates a front and rear camera and offers a longer battery life compared to the original LeapPad. The tablet is available in green and pink, plus a special edition Disney Princess LeapPad 2. The green and pink models are available for $99.99, while the Disney Princess edition goes for $129.99.
