A good indication that a new product is coming is usually the price drop in the previous generation products. This happens to Apple gear and to Amazon products as well, so the recent drop in Kindle 3 refurb prices might indicate that a fourth-gen product is coming.
The retailer is most likely trying to clear its inventory ahead of the new product launch. Previously, the third gen Kindle was made $10 cheaper than the new Marc models and now Amazon dropped the price of the devices to $99.99, for the WiFi version and $129.99 for the 3G one. The Kindle 2 also received special offers and the last time we saw such special offers it was before the debut of the Kindle 3.
Industry rumors are claiming that Amazon might be readying more than one new Kindles, one packing a touchscreen display. The latter will be a higher end unit, while the other newcomer will be cheaper and targeted to students who are keen on e-reading. Of course, the Amazon tablets with Androids are on their way, too…
